The city mayor and her deputies will be elected on Friday, more than a month after the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) election was held on September 24.

A meeting to administer the oath to all councillors will take place at John Hall in Civil Lines at 11am and the mayor and her deputies will also be elected, said D Suresh, divisional commissioner.
A letter in this regard was issued to all councillors from the divisional commissioner’s office on Tuesday.
The newly elected councillors and members of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the party has a full majority in the 35-member house. The BJP has 26 councillors on its side.
The divisional commissioner will administer the oath to all councillors. Once the mayor is elected, she will then chair the meeting of all councillors at 12pm in which the senior deputy mayor and deputy mayor will be elected, Suresh said.
The mayor post is reserved for woman from scheduled caste category.
The Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, 1994, stipulates that within 30 days of the election result, the divisional commissioner has to call for a house meeting to elect the mayor, senior deputy mayor and deputy mayor.
Haryana BJP state general secretary Sandeep Joshi said, “On November 3, the mayor will be elected. The entire state machinery was busy in the Swarn Jayanti celebrations that is concluding in Hisar and in next three days, the party will decide all three names.”

{{/usCountry}}Four names for the mayor seat — Madhu Azad, Sheetal Bagri, Mithilesh and Rajni Sahni — are making the rounds. Azad is the strongest contender as she contested on the party ticket and is backed by a senior party leader who is also in the Union government.
For the posts of senior deputy mayor and deputy mayor, the BJP is finding it tough to choose councillors from Ahirwals and Punjabis.
BJP won 14 seats in the MCG elections but later 12 independent councillors joined the party taking the party’s total tally to 26.
“Names are not decided yet for the mayor and deputies. The party will announce it on November 3,” said Rao Narbir Singh, Haryana PWD minister, adding that the party would choose suitable candidates.
