The Southern Peripheral Raod (SPR), a crucial link between Faridabad-Gurgaon Road, Golf Course Extension Road and Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway, was made motorable on Saturday. The move comes two days before the chief minister’s scheduled visit to the SPR.
A Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda), Gurgaon, team supported by 100 policemen opened a 11-feet revenue road at Rambir Ki Dhani to ensure the movement of vehicles across the entire stretch.
Work on widening the rest of the road will be completed once the authority completes land acquisition.
Land owners at Rambir ki Dhani, had blocked this 330-metre stretch of SPR, demanding rehabilitation in lieu of their plots being acquired by the Huda.
A draw of lots was conducted on August 16 and plots were allotted to them in Sector 49, paving way for the opening of this road.
The 16-km long SPR starts from Faridabad-Gurgaon Road near Ghata, passes through Sohna Road at Vatika Chowk, and connects to the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway near Kherki Daula. However, inability of the Huda to acquire a 300-metre stretch at Rambir Ki Dhani delayed the project.
Huda administrator Yashpal Yadav said the authority delivered on the promise made on August 16 that this road would be made motorable by mid-September. “This point was the only obstacle in the completion of the SPR but now it has been removed. This is a major positive for the Hdua. Soon, we will widen the entire road by acquiring land,” he said.

{{/usCountry}}Thousands of commuters from Faridabad, Delhi, Golf Course Road, Sohna Road and adjoining areas will benefit from the completion of this road. Hundreds of residential and commercial projects on either sides of the road are also expected to see an upswing as the SPR will connect to the Northern Peripheral Road (NPR) through a cloverleaf flyover planned on NH-8 near Kherki Daula.
The cloverleaf being proposed by the Huda is expected to be a two-level interchange that will allow vehicles on the two highways to cross without the need for traffic to stop at left and right turns, a Huda official said.
The Huda has also expedited the land acquisition for the Central Peripheral Road and efforts are being made to make the NPR operational.
