Trio throws chilli powder at courier, robs him of ₹42,000 in Gurugram

The police said the courier was on his way to his office after collecting packages from different areas. No arrest has been made so far.

Three unidentified persons on a motorcycle threw chilli powder at a 21-year-old courier and robbed him of ₹42,000 near the Nirvana Country T-point in Sector 50 on Tuesday morning, the police said. No arrest has been made so far.

The police said the courier was on his way to his office after collecting packages from different areas.

Around 9.45am, Sudhir Kumar, the courier, who also drove his company’s three-wheeler, was on his way to Fazilpur in Sector 72 when a man appeared in front of his vehicle, forcing him to apply the brakes.

“I shouted at him, asking why he couldn’t look around before crossing the road. He came towards me and threw chilli powder on my face. Before I could react, he pulled me out and two more people joined him and started assaulting me,” he said.

Kumar said he was almost blinded because of the impact of chilli powder and raised the alarm, but got no help.

Kumar said all packages were intact, except for a bag containing ₹42,000, which was kept in a storage box. A case under Section 379 (snatching) of the IPC was registered at the Sector 50 police station on Tuesday.

“No one at the spot had noted down the registration number of the motorbike or had any clue about the trio. However, we are using technical and human surveillance to track the three men,” said Shamsher Singh, assistant commissioner of police (crime).

Singh said the accused were aware of the route taken by Kumar as he has been using it for the last two-and-a-half months.
