A 34-year-old unmarried man was frightened of pregnancy. He had sex with his 43-year-old cousin without protection and since then was panicking. He dreaded social ostracism. My reasoning was: “Missing regular periods may be the first sign of pregnancy in a woman. You have erred by not using some form of contraception. Visit a gynaecologist. After a urine pregnancy test and a thorough examination, the doctor will be able to confirm pregnancy. If the results are negative, thank your stars. If she is pregnant and you do not wish to continue with the pregnancy, a legal medical termination of the pregnancy (MTP) is recommended. The MTP is popularly called abortion. The Indian law |permits abortion up to 20 weeks of pregnancy. A condom may be recommended as it reduces the chances of sexually transmitted diseases also.”

He was advised to have self-control subsequently.
