70th Cannes Film Festival: These ladies slayed Day 1 in their designer togs

From Bella Hadid’s thigh-high slit to Elle Fanning’s fairytale gown, dazzling fashion moments lit up the Cannes Film Festival red carpet on the first day. We look at the top picks.

The 70th Cannes Film Festival began at the French Riviera on May 17, and as always, the designer clothes were as much under the spotlight as the films themselves.

Model Bella Hadid oozed sex appeal in a thigh-high slit Alexandre Vauthier Couture dress. Rising star Elle Fanning swept across the red carpet in a fairytale gown by Vivienne Westwood.

The most noticeable trend was the champagne-coloured dress, with A-listers such as Lily-Rose Depp and Emily Ratajkowski looking gorgeous in it.

The top of Bella Hadid’s dress had a corset-style design along with a plunging sweetheart neckline. Side-parted hair with soft curls and an emerald neckpiece completed her look.

This gown was very similar to that of Emily Ratajkowski, who wore Twin Set by Simona Barbieri.

Nineteen-year-old Elle Fanning, one of the youngest stars at Cannes, looked supremely elegant in the Vivienne Westwood off-shoulder gown. The scarlet red lips gave her look the perfect touch. This hand-painted gown was specially created for her.

Portuguese model Sara Pinto Sampaio, known for being a Victoria’s Secret Angel, wore a dramatic Zuhair Murad Couture gown from the Spring 2017 collection. The gown had a plunging neckline and tiny waist. We love the loose braid, diamond jewels and the dramatic black eyes.

American actor and president of the Un Certain Regard jury Uma Thurman picked a Atelier Versace gown.

Actor Jessica Chastain went for a black gown with an intricately embroidered velvet bodice by Alexander McQueen. Along with this dazzling outfit, she wore a diamond and ruby collar necklace. Check out her black eye shadow, ruby lips and soft curls.

The very youthful Lily-Rose Depp, daughter of actor Johnny Depp and singer Vanessa Paradis, looked every inch a nymph in a creamy white Chanel dress that featured gold-embellished detailing around the waist.
