Ben Affleck, the writer, director and star of the upcoming standalone Batman film, has finally revealed the title for the hugely-anticipated superhero blockbuster. And it is, simply, The Batman.
Affleck’s Batman film will be his fourth time in the iconic cape and cowl after Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, a cameo in Suicide Squad and the upcoming Justice League, which completed filming only a few days ago.
Speaking to the Associated Press while promoting his new thriller The Accountant, Affleck said: “The movie I think is going to be called The Batman. At least that’s what we’re going with right now. I might change it… That’s about all I got right now. We’re working on the script, the script is going well, I’m really excited about it.”
The main antagonist in the film, which currently doesn’t have a release date, will be Deathstroke, played by Joe Manganiello. Affleck spoke more about why he chose Deathstroke in an interview with Collider: “He’s a great villain because—I just had an instinctive feeling that he would match up with him well. You know, I’m a big admirer of that character as well, especially in the New 52 the way that they did Deathstroke, and I thought that it could work.”
The Batman follows 1966 and 1989’s Batman, 1992’s Batman Returns, 1995’s Batman Forever, 1998’s Batman & Robin, 2005’s Batman Begins, 2008’s The Dark Knight and 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises.
