The new trailer for Steven Spielberg’s upcoming blockbuster Ready Player One was released online on Sunday, and it might just be the legendary filmmaker’s biggest film yet. Based on Ernie Cline’s bestselling book, the film takes viewers into a virtual reality world filled with pop culture references from classic movies - some of them directed by Spielberg himself.
While the first trailer only provided a brief glimpse at Oasis, the film’s virtual reality world in which players from everywhere compete against each other to find Easter eggs hidden by the game’s creator, the new trailer spends most of its time inside the computer.
Besides The Adventures of Tintin - which was created inside computers - Ready Player One might be Spielberg’s most effects-heavy film yet. We see quick glimpses of spectacular battles, lavish sci-fi worlds, what look like characters created entirely by motion capture, and also quick shots of the DeLorean from Back to the Future, the Iron Giant and other iconic pop culture tidbits.
