Spike Lee has reportedly sought out Samuel L. Jackson for a remake of South Korean thriller Oldboy.

Samuel L. Jackson (The Avengers) could join Josh Brolin, Sharlto Copley and Elizabeth Olsen on the set of Spike Lee's upcoming remake of Oldboy, according to the LA Times.

The South Korean film Oldboy tells the story of a man who is set free after being held captive for 15 years.

In contrast with the Korean production, which was awarded the Grand Prize at the 2003 Cannes festival, Lee's version will reportedly be more faithful to the original manga by Nobuaki Minegishi and Garon Tsuchiya: it will be less violent and incest-free.

Production is set to start in the fall, in Louisiana and New York.
