A video posted online in promotion of the new Star Wars movie, The Last Jedi, makes an attempt to introduce Indian audiences to one of the biggest movie franchises ever. The video, shared by the official Star Wars page, has already accumulated close to 2 million hits on Facebook since Saturday, with another 200,000 from YouTube.
In the video, the faceless villains from the space opera franchise are seen assimilating themselves into Indian culture - working in cubicles, playing cricket, hopping onto buses, sharing Whatsapp jokes...
The move has been made in conjunction with the release of the new Star Wars movie, due in theatres on December 15. The film is a follow-up to Episode VII, The Force Awakens, which made over $2.5 billion at the box office in 2015. That movie was followed by Rogue One, a spin-off featuring a new set of characters.
The Last Jedi will welcome returning stars John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac and Carrie Fisher. The trilogy will end with JJ Abrams’ Episode IX, expected to arrive in 2019. In the meanwhile, fans will get to see Solo: A Star Wars Story in 2018, another spin-off, this time tracing the origins of one of the franchise’s most beloved characters, Han Solo.
