Police said the incident took place in Bhilai town in an area under the jurisdiction of Chhavni police station.
The two men, identified by the police as Sanjay and Shubham, were arrested on Tuesday following a formal complaint lodged by the woman.
Police said the two were bursting firecrackers in front of the victim’s house when his daughter-in-law objected and did not back down.
Angered, the two chased the woman into her house threatening to attack her with a small sharp cutter.
The victim, Ganesh Bairagi, who was having dinner, came to his daughter-in-law’s rescue and tried to pacify the two men but they would have none of it.
Police said Shubham allegedly held Bairagi’s hand while Sanjay stabbed him multiple times in the chest and abdomen with the cutter before running away.
