A local court in Andhra Pradesh’s Chittoor district has directed the police to conduct a sexual “potency” test of a 29-year-old man after he allegedly attacked his wife with a knife and beat her up on the first day of their marriage for disclosing his impotency to her parents.
Police said the incident happened at Motharanganapalle village of Gangadhara Nellore block on the night of December 1.
The Gangadhara Nellore police arrested the woman’s husband Rajesh, a school teacher, the same day and a court sent him to judicial remand a day later. He was booked for voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon and criminal intimidation.
The court directed the police on Tuesday to conduct the ‘potency’ test for Rajesh at a forensic lab in Hyderabad in the presence of experienced doctors.
“Instead of resolving the issue amicably, Rajesh resorted to physical assault on his wife ... Based on the complaint given by the woman and her parents, we booked the case and brought to the notice of the court about his impotency. The court has ordered to conduct a potency test for him,” Gangadhara Nellore sub-inspector Rajasekhar told Hindustan Times on Wednesday.
The 24-year old woman, a second-year MBA student, said in her complaint Rajesh told her that he was not fit for a marital life on the first night after their wedding. She claimed he also suggested she could establish a sexual relationship with another man and that he would continue to treat her as his wife.

{{/usCountry}}She told her parents about Rajesh’s impotency but they asked her not to worry, saying he must have been nervous. He assaulted her when she went back into the room with a knife, bit her all over her body and punched her face and sensitive parts, she complained.
The woman was admitted with serious wounds to Chittoor government hospital and later shifted to Sri Venkateshwara Institute of Medical Sciences in Tirupati, where she is recovering.
“We have not yet decided the date of conducting the tests. We will take him to Hyderabad in a day or two after consulting the lawyers and Rajesh’s family members,” Rajasekhar said.
