  Greek authorities rescue 145 migrants who were found stranded on a river islet on the Turkish border

  Greek authorities said they rescued 145 migrants found stranded Thursday on an islet on the river that runs along the northeastern land border with Turkey, reported AP. 

  Police said that the 70 men, 45 women and 30 children were all in good health and identified as Syrians or Kurds. Greek authorities launched the rescue after being alerted to the migrants' presence by a nongovernmental organization.

  Gujarat High Court judge Samir Dave on Thursday recused himself from hearing the regular bail plea of a manager of the Oreva Group who is in jail for his alleged role in the last year's Morbi bridge collapse in which 135 people were killed. When manager Dinesh Dave's bail plea came up for hearing before Justice Samir Dave, he recused himself, saying "not before me," but didn't assign any reason for the decision. (PTI)

  CM KCR inaugurates rail coach factory in Telangana built by joint venture of Indian and Swiss companies

  Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Thursday inaugurated a Rail Coach factory built by a joint venture of India-based Medha Servo Drives and Swiss railway vehicles manufacturer Stadler Rail with an investment of nearly ₹1000 crore at Kondakal near here. After the inauguration, KCR assured the state government's full support to the factory and said the facility would also house some companies from other countries as ancillary units in the near future, reported PTI.

  Tropical Storm Bret barrels toward eastern Caribbean at near-hurricane strength

  A hurricane watch was issued for St. Lucia as Tropical Storm Bret barreled toward the eastern Caribbean Thursday at near-hurricane strength.

  The storm was located about 170 miles (265 kilometers) east of Barbados on Thursday morning and was moving west at 15 mph (24 kph). It had maximum sustained winds of 70 mph (110 kph), just below the 74 mph (119 kph) winds of a Category 1 hurricane.

  Airports, businesses, schools and offices were closing in St. Lucia and Dominica as forecasters warned of torrential downpours, landslides and flooding. (AP)

  10 people killed as car falls into gorge in Uttarakhand

  Ten people on their way to a temple were killed after their car fell into a 600-metre deep gorge in Munsiyari on Thursday, an official told PTI.

  Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, in a tweet, expressed grief at the loss of lives in the mishap.

  There were 10 people, including the driver, in the Bolero and there are no survivors. All the bodies have been retrieved, Pithoragarh District Disaster Management Officer Bhupendra Singh Mahar said.
