Former finance minister P Chidambaram has been asked by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to appear at its Delhi headquarters at Lodhi Road on June 6 for questioning in connection with alleged irregularities in the clearance of foreign investment in INX media,CBI sources said on Friday.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has also summoned the senior Congress leader on June 5 in connection with the ₹3,500 crore Aircel-Maxis case.
According to agency sources, Chidambaram was called for questioning on Thursday but he sought another date to comply with the probe agency.
According to the same sources, Chidambaram’s alleged role has come under the scanner in connection with the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance of ₹305 crore given to INX media, a venture promoted by former media baron Peter Mukerjea and his wife Indrani, both of whom are in jail for the murder of Sheena Bora.

On Thursday, the Delhi high court had granted Chidambaram interim protection from arrest till July 3 in the case.
The CBI had registered an FIR on May 15 last year for alleged irregularities in the FIPB clearance to INX Media for receiving overseas funds to the tune of ₹305 crore in 2007 when Chidambaram was the finance minister during the UPA-1 government.

Chidambaram could not be reached for comments.
