The chief economic adviser to the government, Arvind Subramanian, will give lessons on ‘trends in the Indian economy’ to economics teachers from country’s top institutes in the second week of June at IIT Delhi, sources said.
This would probably be the first time that a top government functionary would share his practical experience in shepherding the Indian economy with teachers.
According to a senior HRD official, 100 faculty members from the economics department of various universities and colleges, including St Stephens, SRCC, Hindu, and Lady Shri Ram College, are likely to participate in the lectures.
The lectures will be spread out over seven days, spanning over 40 hours and will be recorded by the institute. “The participation will be purely on first-cum-first basis.
All the institutes will be informed about it so that they can participate. The classes are likely to take place during the second week of June. A final decision will be taken soon,” said a senior HRD official.
Sources said the issues of demonetisation and GST are also likely to be taken up.

{{/usCountry}}The ‘Summer School for Economics Teachers’ will be recorded and converted into online courses for students to access under the government’s SWAYAM platform, which anyone will be able to access free of cost later on. Study Webs of Active-Learning for Yung Aspiring Minds (SWAYAM) is HRD ministry’s initiative of providing open online courses to students.
“It was felt that SWAYAM platform needs to be popularised and the lecture series by the chief economic adviser will help in achieving that,” said a senior HRD official.
