A lawyer, Sehul Shah (28), lodged the complaint with Bundgarden police station, alleging that the tweets posted by Dadlani and one Tehseen Poonawala on Twitter about monk Tarun Sagar had offended Jains.

Similar cases were registered against the duo in various parts of the country.

They had tweeted about Sagar, a Digambar sect monk who appears nude, who had delivered an address in Haryana Assembly last week.

“The tweets by Dadlani and Poonawala have hurt the sentiments of Jain community and as the act was done with a motive to hurt the religious sentiments of the community, I lodged a complaint against them,” said Shah.

A station duty officer at the police station said they have registered the case under section 295 (A) (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) of IPC.

Earlier, Dadlani had come under sharp criticism from several quarters, including Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, for posting a “sarcastic” tweet on Sagar’s address in Haryana Assembly, where he was invited by Haryana government to deliver a lecture ‘Kadve Vachan’ last Friday.

He also apologised to the Jain monk on Twitter.

Dadlani, a staunch AAP supporter, later announced quitting “all active political work” on his volition.
