A 49-year-old social activist-cum-contractor was shot dead by assailants during his morning walk in Bihar’s Vaishali’s district on Thursday, police said.

“The contractor was taking a morning walk near his house. Four miscreants on two bikes came and fled after firing. Ramnaresh died on the spot after being hit by four bullets. The FSL team has reached for investigation, evidence has been collected from the spot,” added Vaishali SP Shubhank Mishra.
The deceased has been identified as Rameshwar Rai, a resident of Digghi West of the Hajipur Town. The incident occurred around 5:30am when he was returning to his residence after a morning walk, four youths on two bikes started following him.
As soon as Rameshwar arrived near the Digghi Tola pond, unidentified assailants started firing at him. He suffered bullet injuries on his head and stomach.

Police said the motive behind the Rameshwar`s murder is yet to be ascertained.
Witnesses told police that four youths on two bikes fired multiple shots at him at point-blank range. He was declared dead at the hospital. Primarily it seems the youths were outsiders, the officer said.

{{/usCountry}}The SP said that Ramnaresh was gunned down by unidentified assailants while police were investigating the matter from all angles.
According to locals, Ramnaresh was preparing to fight local body elections for the post of chairman or vice-chairman from Hajipur Municipal Corporation.
