Fresh rain and thunderstorms were expected across Delhi around Tuesday afternoon, lowering the maximum temperature to between 34°C and 36°C, even as air quality remained “moderate” and the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued the highest level of weather warning for most parts of the city.
The IMD issued a red alert for a second day for Northwest, West, Southwest, and parts of North and New Delhi, and an orange alert, the third-highest severity level warning, for the remaining parts of the city.
Palam recorded trace rainfall while none of the IMD’s other weather stations recorded any rain until 8:30am.

In its 9:30am forecast, the IMD said light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, and wind speeds of 60-80 kmph are very likely at most places in Central, East, Northeast, Shahdara, and Southeast Delhi in the next three hours. It added that the region surrounding Delhi is also set to experience similar weather activity.
The IMD said that moderate to severe thunderstorm activity and squally winds exceeding 60 kmph were likely in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and adjoining Western Uttar Pradesh. It added that thunderstorms may develop on Wednesday. Very light to light rain is expected on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Cloudy skies are set to remain until Sunday.

Despite the rain, the IMD said a temperature rise was expected during the week. The maximum temperature is set to reach 39°C to 41°C by Wednesday, before rising and staying between 40°C and 42°C over the weekend. On Tuesday, Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 25.7°C.
In an X post, Amateur meteorologist Navdeep Dahiya wrote that back-to-back pre-monsoon rains continue in the National Capital Region (NCR) due to western disturbances. “Short spell of moderate to slightly heavy thundershowers likely over various parts of Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Faridabad, Ghaziabad during 8:30 to 10:30 am."
He added that the spells of rain should last for 30-40 minutes max, followed by a drizzle for a slightly extended time at a 60-70% NCR-level coverage. Dahiya wrote that only a few parts of the region will miss out.
