India is a country of multiple faiths and beliefs. Devotion, here, often drives people to worship animals, trees, rocks and several other inanimate objects.
So it was no surprise that a kangaroo-shaped dustbin installed inside a temple complex recently turned into a shrine after a group of women started worshipping the figurine, mistaking it for a deity.
The video of the act, which has gone viral on social media, shows sari-clad women applying vermillion and sprinkling the dustbin with holy water.
The location of the video could not be ascertained but many users on Twitter say that the video was shot in Bihar, presumably during the Chhath Puja dedicated to the Sun god and his wife Usha.
While the 23-second-video left the internet in splits, there were many who expressed concern over the sheer naivety on the part of the women.
