Five policemen among 6 injured in suspected IED blast in Manipur

The victims, who sustained injuries on their chests and limbs, were evacuated to a private hospital. The condition of the injured persons is stated to be stable.

Six persons including five policemen and a civilian were injured when a bomb suspected to be an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded in Imphal on Tuesday morning.

The explosion took place in front of a grocery shop located in between the Thangal Bazar and Khoyathong junction in Imphal around 9.20am, police said. Some of the vehicles including two wheeler parked near the explosion site besides glass window of the nearby buildings also damaged.

The police have registered a case and investigation is going on to find out the details.

The injured personnel which include a police officer were evacuated to a nearby private hospital for necessary treatment. The condition of most of injured persons who sustained injury on their limbs and chest are stated to be stable, according to the hospital authority. However one is under observation,they said.

Sources said the police personnel who sustained injury during the explosion were on their routine duty. The sound of the explosion was also heard by the residents in and around state capital.

Meanwhile the state chief minister N Biren Singh accompanied by the senior state police officers visited the explosion site and condemned the incident.

The Director General of Police LM Khaute of Manipur police led senior police officers also accompanied the chief minister during the day’s visit. So far no armed militant group has claimed responsibility for the explosion till the report goes to press.
