Former PM Rajiv Gandhi’s statue found damaged in UP’s Mirzapur, police case filed

A police case has been filed against unidentified people for damaging the statue in Mirzapur’s Awas Vikas Colony.

A statue of late former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi -- which was installed in a park in Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh -- was found damaged, police said on Sunday.

The statue in Awas Vikas Colony was found damaged on Sunday by locals, who informed police about it.

Superintendent of police Ashish Tiwari said an FIR has been lodged against unidentified persons in this regard.

A delegation of Congress leaders also met the district magistrate and demanded immediate arrest of those involved in the act and invocation of the National Security Act against them.

Former Congress MLA Laliteshpati Tripathi said the party’s state president Raj Babbar will arriving on Monday and they would decide their future course of action after meeting him.
