From Deoria to Faizabad and Ambedkar Nagar, farmers who gathered to hear the party vice-president left venues with khats that were placed for those gathered to sit on.

Gandhi had launched his Deoria-to-Delhi Kisan Yatra on September 6, and his party workers were initially left struggling with locals who jostled over the cots.

Each cot costs Rs 500-600 and the Congress needs at least 5,000 of them fro its sessions everyday.

“The price of cots was not much and Congress workers were in any case not going to take them away after the meeting. The cots were meant for local villagers,” Uttar Pradesh Congress president Raj Babbar said to reporters after one such instance.

The party faced a repeat of the same situation on Sunday after Gandhi’s khat sabha at Bhadsar in Ghazipur.
