More than a year after suspending Bengaluru’s senior police leadership over the 2025 M Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede that killed 11 people, the Karnataka government on Tuesday abandoned its disciplinary case against three IPS officers, formally exonerating them.

Orders issued on Tuesday ended departmental proceedings against former Bengaluru police commissioner B Dayananda, former additional commissioner of police Vikash Kumar Vikash and former deputy commissioner of Police (Central) Shekhar H Tekkannavar.
“After examining the statement of defence of the charged officer and opinion rendered by the administrative department, the competent authority has decided to drop the departmental enquiry against Sri B. Dayananda, IPS,” one of the orders said. Identical directions were issued in the cases of Vikash and Tekkannavar.
The stampede broke out at the stadium on June 4, 2025 during the Royal Challengers Bangalore’s victory celebration in the IPL.
At the time, then-CM Siddaramaiah ordered the suspension of Dayananda, Vikash and Tekkannavar, along with the assistant commissioner of police responsible for the Cubbon Park subdivision and the inspector of Cubbon Park police station
