IMD officials have said that Mumbaikars can expect improvement in the condition after noon today. “In last 24 hrs Colaba received 13 cm rain, Santa Cruz received 37 cm rain. From 11.30 pm-5.30 am, more than 200 mm was recorded. Situation is gradually improving. We have brought down the warning by one level. Isolated heavy rainfall is expected in Mumbai today,” KS Hosalikar, DDG at IMD told ANI.

Python, washed away from National Park, stuck in nullah wall in Thane

A huge python, estimated to be five to six feet in length, has been found stuck in a nullah wall in Lokmanya Nagar in Thane since 7 am this morning. The rescue operation of this python is carried out by few snake rescuers, local residents, forest and fire brigade team from last seven hours, but to no avail. Local residents claim that the python was washed away from the National Park mountain, entered a local house constructed on the nullah and got stuck in the drain pipe of the nullah.

Air India’s recovery kit arrives at Mumbai. Air India engineers have now started to work to remove the aircraft which overshot the runway last night. At least 18 people were killed in Mumbai and Thane as the cities received heavy rains throughout the day and night on Monday forcing authorities to declare a public holiday amid forecast of more showers. Mumbai records its second highest July rain in 44 years, highest in 10 years

10-year-old trapped under debris in Malad

A woman and a child were trapped under the debris of the wall, which collapsed on hutments killing 13 people in Mumbai’s Malad East early on Tuesday, officials said, as rescuers struggled to reach them. According to Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) officials, they are stuck under a heavy beam and officials are finding it difficult to enter below due to very narrow space. “One lady and child located under the debris of wall and rescue work is in progress … We are using various tools to cut and widen the space to enter below the beam and rescue the trapped lady and child,” Mumbai Fire Brigade chief PS Rahangdale said.

Six dead in wall collapse in Pune

Six workers were killed after a retaining wall of Sinhgad institute in Ambegaon area collapsed during midnight. According to fire brigade officials, four workers suffered injuries in the incident that came just three days after yet another wall of housing societies collapsed, killing 15 persons.

The 9-foot wall punded on shanties where the construction workers were living. The tree standing tall also collapsed due to pounded wall.
