Naveen Jindal, who was sacked as the BJP's Delhi media head a few days ago over his controversial remarks on Prophet Mohammed amid an international uproar, on Tuesday said that he and his family members were receiving death threats on social media platforms. He urged the Delhi Police to take note of the matter.

"Me and my family members have been receiving death threats on social media platforms. I would like to request the Delhi Police to kindly take note of it," Jindal wrote on Twitter. Jindal had come under attack on social media after his now-deleted tweet about the Prophet on June 1.

After his remarks created a furore, Delhi BJP chief Adesh Gupta, in a communication to Jindal, said his views on social media vitiated communal harmony and were in violation of the party's fundamental beliefs. “He has acted against the party's policies and ideology,” Gupta said.

"Your primary membership is immediately terminated and you are expelled from the party," Gupta added.

Jindal said he had tweeted in response to those who were attacking and insulting Hindu deities. He added that his comment was not aimed at hurting the religious sentiments of any community.

Earlier in the day, the Delhi Police provided security to suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma and her family after an FIR was registered on a complaint that she was getting death threats over her controversial remarks on Prophet Mohammad, officials said. She had requested police to provide security citing harassment and threats she had been receiving.
