Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday met his mother Heeraben Modi at her residence in Gujarat's capital city Gandhinagar. This comes after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) clinched victories in four of five states, including the crucial Uttar Pradesh, which went into polls between February and March.

Modi is currently in his home state for a two-day visit that will come to an end on Saturday (March 12). He addressed a mega Panchayat convention earlier in the day where he invoked Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel.

During his stay in Gujarat, he is also expected to sound the poll bugle for the assembly elections scheduled in December this year. The BJP has been in power in the western state since 1995, and Modi served as the chief minister for four terms between 2001 and 2014.
