In Gujarat day after poll results, PM Modi invokes Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Patel
Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his address to the Maha-Panchayat Sammelan called for a robust panchayat raj infrastructure
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday hailed the village panchayats in fighting the coronavirus pandemic.

“Villages have been successful in checking the spread of Coronavirus. I congratulate the village heads for their efforts. I also congratulate the farmers of the country for ensuring that food supplies were not hit during the pandemic," the prime minister said while addressing the Maha-Panchayat Sammelan in Ahmedabad.
The prime minister invoked Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel during his address. “Gujarat is the land of Bapu and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Bapu always talked about rural development, self-reliant villages. Today, as we are marking 'Amrit Mahotsav', we must fulfil Bapu's dream of Grameen Vikas,” the prime minister said.
“A robust panchayat raj infrastructure is key to fulfilling the dream of Gram Swaraj. All the panchayat members and sarpanchs are working towards achieving the objective,” the prime minister added.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a grand roadshow in Ahmedabad, a day after the Bharatiya Janata Party won assembly elections in four out of five states. During his two-day stay in his home state, Modi will be attending various events.
The prime minister is also expected to sound the poll bugle for the assembly elections scheduled in December this year. The saffron party is in power since 1995. Modi who rose from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh's ranks before being inducted into the BJP in the 1980s, served as the chief minister for four terms between 2001 and 2014.
