Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday alleged that poor people’s money is being used to waive off bad loans of corporates in the name of demonetisation as he took his battle against Prime Minister Narendra Modi out of Delhi.
Talking to locals at a market in Dadri in Uttar Pradesh, Gandhi said, “(PM) Modi ji wants your money to stay in banks for the maximum time. Modi wants the money of the poor people parked in banks for 6-8 months so that the banks can waive off Rs 8 lakh crore corporate bad loans,” he said.
He also told the villagers that in cashless economy, “5% of the money transacted will go to big corporates”.
In October, the Supreme Court had said the Reserve Bank of India’s list of loan defaulters, submitted in a sealed cover, showed that 57 debtors had defaulted on repaying around Rs 85,000 crore.
Gandhi attacked the PM minutes after former finance minister P Chidambaram slammed the government’s move to replace high-value bank notes with new ones as the ‘biggest scam of the year.”

He also refuted the government’s argument that the demonetisation drive is against fake currency.
“Fake currency is only 0.02 paisa in every Rs 100,” Gandhi told villagers.
