A family in Madhya Pradesh’s Damoh district has claimed that they found rat-bite marks on the body of their 70-year-old relative which was returned following his death in the hospital’s ICU, prompting an inquiry into the matter.
Virendra Chadar, of Sukha Satpara village, said his ailing father Jagdish Chadar (70) had been serious and admitted to the ICU of Damoh district hospital on Monday night.
“At around 2 am, we were informed that he had died. While taking my father’s body we noticed some injury marks near his left eye and some ointment put there. The staff told us that a rat had bitten him,” he said.
Chadar said he was in a state of shock and did not raise the issue then, but he demanded action in the matter.
Dr Mamta Timori, civil surgeon, said she came to know of the incident on Wednesday morning.
“No one from the staff informed me about the incident. I have issued notice to the staff nurse on duty and also ordered an inquiry. I have also contacted an Indore-based pest control company to exterminate the rats,” she said.
Human rights activist, Manoj Devariya said this is not the first case of irregularity coming to light in the district hospital, but no action has been taken in earlier cases.
