Richa Chadha apologises for Galwan tweet, says, 'My nanaji fought against China'

Richa Chadha issued a statement after her Galwan tweet triggered a massive row. "I apologise and also say that it would sadden me if even unintentionally my words have triggered this feeling in my brothers in the Fuaj of which my own Nanaji has been an illustrious part," the actor wrote adding that his 'nanaji' took a bulley in the leg in the Indo-China war.

Bollywood actor Richa Chadha, facing flak for her Galwan tweet, issued a statement apologising for unintentionally hurting the feelings of the 'brothers in the Army'. The actor said her intention was not to offend or hurt anyone. Issuing a statement in which the actor talked about her family connection with the Army, Richa Chadha said her 'nanaji' as a Lt Col took a bullet in the leg in the Indo-China war in 1960s. "My Mamaji was a paratropper. It's in my blood," the actor said apologising for the controversy.

The actor was criticised for her 'Galwan says hi' tweet and was accused of being anti-national. Several social media users including BJP leaders slammed the actor and questioned her patriotism, as her tweet came as a reaction to Indian Army's statement that it is ready to execute orders from the government if it is asked to take back the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

The controversy took a political turn as the BJP leaders claimed that Richa Chadha is close with the Congress. Calling Richa Chadha a worshipper of the Congress and Rahul Gandhi, and a third-grade Bollywood actor, Manjinder Singh Sirsa demanded legal action against her.

"Disgraceful tweet. Should be withdrawn at the earliest. Insulting our armed forces is not justified," BJP's Manjinder Singh Sirsa tweeted slamming the actor.

Shiv Sena (Uddhav faction) spokesperson Anand Dubey said stringent action should be taken against such actors who make anti-national tweets. “An actor, Richa Chadha, has made a joke dragging Galwan valley in her tweet. I demand the chief minister and the home minister take stringent action on this. Such actors, who make anti-national tweets should be banned,” Dubey said.
