A bride’s family in Jharkhand’s Palamu district is sending out an unusual invitation to VIPs, local dignitaries, elected leaders and government officials to their daughter’s wedding. The invitation card points to the fact that there is no road leading up to the venue of the wedding.
This move comes after repeated attempts to get it repaired failed to evoke any response from authorities.
A few villagers had cut off the road at Darua village, 30 km from Daltonganj, in Satbarwa block of Palamu district in February claiming it to be raiyatti land. It was the only link between Satbarwa and many villages in Leslieganj and Panki.
The bride’s family said, it had witnessed very low turnout of guests and relatives at recent marriages solemnised at Shivari, Ghutua, Bolia and other nearby villages. The bridegroom’s party also had to overcome several problems in reaching destinations in each case.

Besides mentioning details of the marriage on March 10, the invitation reads:Mere gaon ki sadak kati hai, par shaadi me jaroor ana hai (The road to my village is cut off but please do come).
Requesting anonymity, the father said, “We will somehow manage to take dulha-babu and baraatis (bride-groom and party) to the village but I am afraid few guests will be able to make it.We thought it would be wiser to mention to the guests the hardships that lay ahead if they wanted to attend the marriage,” he said.
The Satbarwa block development officer (BDO) also holding charge of circle officer (CO) SK Baraik said, “The issue could not be resolved due to strike by the revenue karmacharis.”
