Smriti Zubin Irani, Union minister for Women and Child Development, and Minority Affairs is celebrating her 47th birthday today. The actress-turned-politician was born on March 23, 1976.
Several leaders from Bharatiya Janata Party Birthday extended birthday greetings to the minister. Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to post greetings for Irani. He tweeted, "Best wishes to Minister Smt. @smritiirani Ji on her birthday. She is providing admirable leadership to our Government's efforts to further the welfare of our Nari Shakti. She is admired for her oratory and connect with people from all walks of life. Praying for her long life".

Smriti Irani was born into a Marathi-Punjabi-Bengali family based in Delhi. She started her career as a model and actress in 1994, before entering into politics. Even today, she is known by her character name, "Tulsi" which she portrayed in the very popular daily soap named "Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi" for she which she holds the record of winning five consecutive ITA Award for Best Actress Popular and four Indian Telly Awards. She has worked in various TV serials including Maniben.com, Teen Bahuraaniyaan, DD Mero's Kavita. She married a Parsi businessman Zubin Irani.
Political career:
Irani joined the BJP in 2003. Later she became a member of the National Executive and served as vice president of the Maharashtra Youth Wing just a year later. She was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Gujarat in 2011 and was re-elected in 2017.
In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, she contested from Amethi against the then Congress President Rahul Gandhi but lose the election. In 2019, she fiercely fought and defeated Gandhi and reached Lok Sabha.
She is currently serving as the Union Minister for Women & Child Development and Minister for Minority Affairs. She has previously served as the Union Minister for Education (formerly known as Human Resource Development) from May 2014 to July 2016, Minister for Information & Broadcasting from July 2017 to May 2018 and Minister for Textiles from July 2016 to July 2021. She is India’s youngest Union Cabinet Minister in the Government and the first woman to hold office as Minister for Education and as Minister of Textiles.
