Chhattisgarh Police on Wednesday took into custody a cook in a security force who allegedly killed his wife by using a live wire on her private parts on suspicion of infidelity in Baloda Bazar district.
The murder was allegedly committed at LIG colony of Bhatapara area of Baloda Bazar district on Tuesday evening.
Suresh Niri (33), a cook in a battalion of the Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF – a police outfit) in Dantewada district, allegedly killed his wife Lakshmi Bai (28) and transported the body to his in-laws place in Pathariya (Mungeli) where the incident was reported on Wednesday.
“Suresh told his in-laws that his wife died due to illness but his in-laws found some sign of injuries on Lakhsmi’s body and reported to police on Wednesday morning,” said PR Jagat, assistance sub-inspector, Pathariya police station, who is investigating the case.
Police immediately detained Suresh Niri for questioning, Jagat added.
“Suresh in his statement to the Pathariya police said that he suspected his wife of having extra martial affairs. On Tuesday afternoon, he fought with his wife. After the fight, when his wife was washing clothes inside the bathroom, he went inside and started beating her. When she became unconscious, Suresh passed electric current to her private parts with a live wire and watched her die,” said the police officer.
The ASI further said that Suresh then called his in-laws and told them that Lakhsmi was ill.

{{/usCountry}}“He hired a van and came to Pathariya to his in-laws place and convinced the in-laws on Tuesday night that Lakshmi died due to illness but later on Wednesday morning someone saw injuries on victim’s body and called police,” said the ASI.
The body was sent to post-mortem and report is awaited, said the ASI.
“Suresh is in our custody,” Jagat said.
