A police complaint has been filed in Maharashtra’s Thane district by the kin of two brothers alleging that the siblings were kidnapped while on a business tour to Malaysia, an official said on Sunday.
Rohan Prakash Vaidya (36) and Kaustubh Prakash Vaidya (31) own a fish export firm called Rock Frozen Food and had gone to Malaysia on August 1 after receiving an order from a firm there called Mis Lee Frozen Foods, the complaint from Rajiv Vaidya, the brothers’ paternal uncle, alleged.
According to the complaint, one of the brothers called up home on August 2 at around 10.30 pm to inform the family that they had been kidnapped by unknown persons who were demanding a ransom of Rs 1 crore, police said.
The family received several calls from the siblings on August 3, between 8 and 11 pm, repeating the demand following which their uncle lodged a complaint with Dombivali police Saturday evening, they added.
A police official said that a case was registered under section 364 A (kidnapping for ransom) and 387 (putting person in fear of death or of grievous hurt, in order to commit extortion) and further investigations were underway.

The anti-extortion cell of Thane police was also directed to conduct investigations into the case, the official added.
