Two passengers die after jumping out of Dibrugarh-Chandigarh Express that caught fire

Two passengers died when they jumped out of the Dibrugarh-Chandigarh Express after its engine caught fire on Friday

“Two passengers died when they jumped out of the train in panic,” said Nripen Bhattacharya, spokesperson of North East Frontier Railway.

The train engine caught fire near Chathat station in Darjeeling district of West Bengal. “The fire started from the engine around 11:30 am,” said Pranab Jyoti Sharma, chief public relation officer of North East Frontier Railway.

The train was just 9 km away from New Jalpaiguri Railway station, about 550 kms to the north of Kolkata.

Two fire engines doused the fire. An inquiry has been initiated, said Sharma. The first compartment after the engine was damaged too.
