Captain Virat Kohli, after a four day finish in the first Test, chilled by the swimming pool of his team hotel.

With two Sri Lankan cricketers not coming out to bat in the second innings due to injuries, the dismissal of Lahiru Kumara meant India registered their fourth biggest victory in terms of runs in Test cricket, taking a vital 1-0 lead in the ongoing series.

The victory was an instance of life coming full circle for this team under Virat Kohli, as they had lost the opening Test of their previous Sri Lanka tour at Galle in 2015, despite dominating for majority of the contest.

However, India were unruffled throughout the play on all four days as they continued their march towards consolidating their position as the No 1 Test side. In the first innings, India sealed the game making it a one-sided affair by posting 600, which turned out to be too much for the struggling hosts.

Pujara and Dhawan slammed centuries in the first innings, with the latter joining the exclusive club of batsmen who had scored more than 100 runs inside one session. Dhawan scored a fabulous 190, and Pujara made 153, which set the proceedings in India’s favour.

Yuvraj Singh, an integral part of the limited-overs side despite his mixed performances, was among the first ones to wish India on their big victory.
