Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin make it 1-2 for India in ICC rankings

Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin held the top two spots in the latest ICC rankings for bowlers while Shikhar Dhawan and Ben Stokes made big strides after their Man of the Match performances in Galle and The Oval respectively.

Ravichandran Ashwin climbed up to the second spot following yet another solid performance against Sri Lanka in Galle while India’s opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan moved up 21 spots according to the latest International Cricket Council (ICC) rankings. Ravindra Jadeja continued to maintain his top spot.

Jadeja has 897 points, followed by Ashwin at second spot with 849 points. In third spot is Rangana Herath, who is in doubt for the second Test against India starting August 3 at Colombo.

“Shikhar Dhawan’s scores of 190 and 14 have lifted the left-hander 21 slots to 39th position, while off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has leapfrogged Rangana Herath to wrest back the second position among bowlers to again make it a 1-2 for India with Ravindra Jadeja retaining the top spot,” the ICC release stated.

Ben Stokes won the Man of the Match award in The Oval Test against South Africa as England’s star all-rounder moved up in the ICC rankings.

“Stokes has moved up 12 places to joint-25th position in the rankings for batsmen with scores of 112 and 31, while also gaining two places to reach 19th position in the list for bowlers after grabbing one for 26 and two for 51. His effort also sees him overtake South Africa’s Vernon Philander to take fifth position in the list of all-rounders,” the ICC said in the release.

England’s massive victory over South Africa saw Jonny Bairstow moving to the ninth spot whereas Alastair Cook was in 12th.
