Nimisha Tiwari, a second year student of Daulat Ram College, was cooking breakfast in her house in Madhur Apartments in Nangloi when the accident took place, the police said. She was alone in the house.

"We were informed about the accident by the neighbours who took her to Sanjay Gandhi hospital. Fire services were pressed into service to control the flames," said deputy commissioner of police Robin Hibu.

"We are investigating the cause of the accident," he added.
