A fortnight-long deadlock between the Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) management and its employee union over the suspension of two workers ended on Wednesday as the company recalled them to work.
Jaibir Yadav, who is an executive member of the workers' union, and Naresh Yadav were suspended on August 6 after an altercation with a production manager over the issue of overtime duty and leave at the auto-maker's Manesar plant.
An understanding between the management and HMSI employee union could be reached after several rounds of reconciliation talks at the labour department's office in Gurgaon.
The two workers were served showcause notices which they had replied to on August 13.
“This was a matter of internal discipline. Both the employees are back to work after appropriate disciplinary action and mutual understanding with the employee union,” Harbhajan Singh, vice-president, corporate affairs and industrial relations, HMSI, said in a statement.
President of the employee union Ashok Yadav, who had been claiming that the employees were resentful over the delay in revoking the suspension of workers, said, “We are committed to resolve all our internal matters through discussion and spirit of cooperation.”
