The incident took place yesterday when the pipeline was being repaired near Gandhar village of the district, they said.

According to ONGC spokesperson LM Joshi, there was a flash fire when the men were repairing the pipeline.

"An inquiry has been ordered into the incident and the injured have already been given treatment," Joshi told PTI.

He said that flash fire could have been caused due to the small amount of gas in the pipeline. "Whatever be the magnitude of fire, as per rules we have to inquire into it," Joshi added.

Bharuch welfare hospital sources said that out of the 22 persons who suffered burn injuries, condition of five was serious and they have been kept under observation.

A case has been registered in the matter and further investigation was on, police said.
