27 sentenced to life imprisonment for killing tribals

The court also slapps a fine of Rs 50,000 on three of the convicts.

A fast track court on Tuesday sentenced 27 people to life imprisonment for killing four tribals at Laxmipur village in Bihar's Kishanganj district in 1983.

The court headed by Additional District and Sessions judge Jhulanand Jha, who had on December 13 convicted them and decided to pronounce the quantum of sentence on Tuesday, awarded them life terms.

The court also slapped a fine of Rs 50,000 on three of the convicts -- Afhan Ali alias Afhan Bhatia, Abdul Hanand and Abdul Bhatia.

The court had acquitted three others for want of sufficient evidence.

Four tribals were killed at the village in the district on July 29, 1983.
