The accident occured on the Kishtwar-Chatroo road, about 220 km north of the state's winter capital Jammu.

"The labourers were in two trucks, which were hit by a massive landslide on the mountainous road at around 9 a.m," a police official told IANS on phone. "At this point of time neither the two tippers are visible nor the labourers."

Rescue teams were rushed to the spot. However rescue operations could not be launched immediately, as stones were still rolling down the slope and there was a continuous flow of mud, said the police.
