349 insurgents killed in Manipur in three years

A total of 349 insurgents of different groups operating in Manipur are killed by police and security forces since 2004.

A total of 349 insurgents of different groups operating in Manipur were killed by police and security forces since 2004, state police chief AK Parashar said on Friday.

A total of 104 police and security personnel were also killed in insurgency-related incidents between 2004 and 2006. During the same period, 400 civilians were killed in such incidents, he said.

Parashar said police and security forces recovered 465 arms from insurgents during the three-year period while police and security forces lost 10 weapons.

A total of 35 insurgents of different groups surrendered to authorities in the same period and of them, 22 were still held in rehabilitation camps. The rest had been rehabilitated, he said.

Police also seized 14 kg of heroin, worth crores of rupees in the international market, from different places during the period, he said.
