Four officials of two realty firms were booked on Wednesday on charges of abetment in the suicide of a 52-year-old builder. A complaint was lodged by Poonam Shekhawat, wife of deceased Ashok Kumar Shekhawat, who committed suicide by jumping from the 8th floor of Galaxy Apartments in Sector 43 on Tuesday.
The booked officials include one official of Orchid Infrastructure and three of Spaze Towers.
Shekhawat’s wife alleged that both these companies owed Rs 15 crore to her husband but they had been refusing to pay up, forcing Ashok to take the extreme step. “The builders also threatened my husband of dire consequences,” she added.
Supporting her claims, Amandeep Singh, Shekhawat’s nephew, alleged, “My uncle used to get threatening calls from the builders that he would be killed if he asked for his money.”
Meanwhile, the developers have refuted the charges stating that “Shekhawat’s relatives were cooking up stories.”
Dipak Bhajoria, spokesperson of Orchid Infrastructure, alleged that the deceased had failed to produce bills amounting to Rs 6 crore.
“I am scanning the accounts. The outstanding amount is barely Rs 1 crore. We had been asking Shekhawat to produce bills to see how much money we owed to him. But he failed to do so. We never threatened him,” said Bhajoria. No official from Spaze Towers could be contacted.

We have registered a case against four officials.” Shekhawat owned a construction firm and had been allegedly depressed for last two months. He had gone to meet his friend in Galaxy Apartment and jumped off the balcony.
