TEACHINGS OF great saint Kabir were highlighted at Lahartara-based Kabir Mutt in Varanasi on the inaugural day of the three-day 608th Kabir Prakatya Mahotsav on Thursday.
Noted preacher Panth Shree Mukund Maninam Saheb said human beings could achieve salvation by controlling their minds.
Gurumukh Saheb of Saharanpur said Kabir had spread the message of love, kindness and humanity among a cross-section of society. He added Kabir’s teachings and couplets were still relevant in contemporary society.
Vijay Das Shashtri of the mutt said human beings could obtain the ultimate goal in life, spiritual heights through ‘Karma-path’.
Interestingly, devotees and volunteers of the mutt burnt packets of tobacco as this product was being sold by using Kabir’s name.
The devotees opined Kabir had always opposed drug addiction. Therefore selling tobacco products in the name of Kabir was an attempt to defame his ideology.
They said they would also submit a memorandum to the DM demanding a ban on selling type of products in the name of great saint Kabir.
