Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao made Pratyusha, a girl tortured for years by her stepmother and a collaborating father, his family member on Wednesday, showering affection on the tormented girl.
Pratyusha, 19, was rescued by activists and authorities from her stepmother Shyamala, and father C Ramesh, three weeks ago. The parents allegedly confined and tortured her in their LB Nagar house in the city here.
Pratyusha, who was in a frail condition when she was rescued, was then admitted to a hospital. There, Rao visited her, and asked her to become a part of his family. The chief minister also reportedly assured those present there that he would “get the girl married to a nice boy”.
On Wednesday, after Pratyusha was released from hospital, she was presented before the high court that allowed her to go to Rao’s house.
Pratyusha was received by Rao, who made her have lunch with him and assured her of all support. “Forget the past, study hard to become successful. And don’t be afraid of anything as I am here for you. You can visit my home anytime,” he said.
Rao sanctioned Rs 5 lakh for her. For now, Pratyusha will live in a hostel, and police and district authorities have been asked to ensure her safety and well-being. Rao also asked education minister K Srihari to take care of her education, said Jwala Narasimha Rao, CPRO to the CM.
