Even as President’s Rule was imposed in Delhi on Saturday, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) started preparing for fresh elections in Delhi.
There is still confusion over the possibility over a repoll in Delhi and if the elections to the Assembly would be held simultaneously with the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
If the two elections are conducted together, it will be interesting to see how AAP’s top leaders divide time between Delhi and at the national level and what happens to its existing MLAs and some of the prominent faces that had lost the Delhi polls, some just by a whisker.
The party has already directed its MLAs and other representatives to hold meetings for showcasing the AAP government’s achievements during its 49-day rule.
“For instance, a meeting is scheduled for February 16 in RK Puram, the constituency from where Shazia Ilmi had contested and lost by a margin of just 385 votes. Not just here, but almost in all constituencies, the party cadre have started to reach out to the voters,” said a leader.
Sources said, some of the candidates, who had lost assembly polls, have applied for tickets for the Lok Sabha polls. But the party is unlikely to challenge the imposition of President’s Rule in the capital.

{{/usCountry}}“We have already started raising the issue on various platforms, including social media, television debates and out leaders may talk about it at public meetings as well. The party’s political affairs committee may also discuss the issue in a meeting on Sunday,” said a member of its national executive.
