The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is set to celebrate International Women's Day with a Google Hangout featuring women speakers from the party, including high profile ex-banker Meera Sanyal on Saturday.
The theme for the Google Hangout - a popular medium used by the AAP to reach out to its global supporters - is 'Women in Indian Politics', said a party leader.
Although the top leaders of the Arvind Kejriwal-led party have always maintained the need for more women in politics, the little more than one year old party has a miniscule number of women leaders. The party's women volunteers' at the ground level too are comparably lesser. Albeit, the only three women MLAs in the Delhi assembly, belonged to AAP.
Apart from Sanyal, the ex-CEO of Royal Bank of Scotland, who is also the AAP's candidate-designate for the Mumbai (South) Parliamentary constituency, the two other women are Shalini Gupta, coordinator of AAP's global supporters, and Rachna Dhingra, AAP's Bhopal candidate-designate.
Dhingra is known for her work for the Bhopal gas tragedy victims. Sanyal, who joined in January, has earlier campaigned for the party ahead of the Delhi assembly election in 2013. Gupta shifted to India last year from the US, and now works as the organisation development advisor for the AAP.

{{/usCountry}}The event, scheduled at 8 pm on Saturday, is to be supported technically by the AAP's US-based global supporters group even as the three women will be sitting at their respective stations in India - Gupta in Delhi, Dhingra in Bhopal and Sanyal in Mumbai.
Reaching out to its supporters through Google Hangout is a popular initiative by the AAP, which has earlier hosted such events for Kejriwal, another leader Yogendra Yadav and recently party's national secretary Pankaj Gupta to pacify dissenting voices against ticket distribution.
