THE FAMOUS Dev-Deepawali Mahotsav of Varanasi is all set to be celebrated on the day of Kartik Purnima on Sunday. The festival of glittering diyas, Dev-Deepawali, started in the year 1986 at Panchaganga ghat, claimed Pt Narayan Guru, president of Kendriya Dev Deepawali Mahasamiti. A series of cultural functions will be organised on floating stages on the Ganga at several ghats on Sunday evening to mark the occasion.

The festival of glittering diyas, Dev-Deepawali, started in the year 1986 at Panchaganga ghat, claimed Pt Narayan Guru, president of Kendriya Dev Deepawali Mahasamiti. A series of cultural functions will be organised on floating stages on the Ganga at several ghats on Sunday evening to mark the occasion.
Boats and house-boats have already been booked in advance by the visitors to have a glimpse of decorated and glittering ghats. Lakhs of people are expected to visit different ghats on the bank of Ganga river. The `Akash Deep’ event which is observed throughout the month of Kartik in the memory of war martyrs, will also conclude on the occasion. It will be organised under the auspices of Ganga Seva Nidhi. Air Marshal PV Nayak will be be chief guest whereas Lt Gen OP Nandarajog, will preside over Dev Deepawali function.
The Kendriya Dev Deepawli Mahasamiti will dedicate the celebrations to shehnai maestro and Bharat Ratna late Ustad Bismillah Khan at Balaji Ghat on Sunday evening.
Ustad Nayer Hussain Khan, son of late Ustad Bismillah Khan, will pay his tribute to Ustad Bismillah Khan by rendering shehnai at the Naubat-Khana of Balaji temple where late Bismilah Khan used to practice shehnai.Gangotri Sewa Samiti will also organise a grand function at Dashashwmedh ghat.
