The Andhra Pradesh government has on Wednesday approved the name Amaravati for its brand new capital to be constructed in the Guntur district.
The state chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu announced the decision of the cabinet that met on Wednesday.
“It is unanimously decided that Amaravati would be the right name as it is a place with great history - ruled by the Satavahanas and many glorious dynasties. It is also an important religious centre for Hindus and Buddhists,” Naidu told reporters.
The village on banks of Krishna river was recently declared a heritage city by the NDA government.
Some of the highlights of the capital area are satellite towns, radial roads connecting the nearby cities and towns, expressways and a 210 km of outer ring road, new bridges on Krishna.
The Gannavaram airport would be developed as international airport with a possibility of another airport at Mangalagiri in future. A logistics hub would come up at the nearby port Machilipatnam, the CM said.

On first day of the financial year Naidu also announced a new industrial policy under which a 15 lakh acre of land bank is envisioned for industrial use. Naidu also announced steps for 24 hr power supply, single desk clearance for projects to attract investors.
