Yeddyurappa, who is in Delhi to attend a two-day BJP executive meeting, called on Soni and requested that Shimoga, which is an education hub and a tourist centre be sanctioned an FM radio station, official sources in Bangalore said on Saturday.

Soni also assured that the Centre was keen to establish more low-power TV transmitter stations in various parts of Karnataka where Doordarshan does not have a reach.

Her ministry would help Karnataka in extending the reach of Doordarshan if the state government brought such a proposal before it.

Karnataka home minister Dr V S Acharya was part of the delegation.
